With dedicated feline and canine entrances, our cat patients never have to feel threatened by our exuberant dog patients (and vice versa!). We also have an exam room set up just for our feline friends, that features a 24/7 application of Feliway - a synthetic copy of the pheromone used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure. A trip to the vet does not always need to equal fear and stress. A thorough understanding of feline behavior and medicine is absolutely crucial for a positive veterinary experience for you and your cat!
We promote top-of-the-line cat-safe anesthesia and sedation protocols and are well versed in the cutting-edge treatments available for unique diseases that affect felines. We have even developed a treatment regimen for arthritis in cats (an ailment that has historically been difficult to manage long-term).
Rainbow Animal Hospital is proudly offering only non-adjuvanted vaccines for our feline patients. Read on to learn about our new vaccine protocol, featuring cutting-edge immunizations that are safer than ever:
Why change to Purevax vaccines? Purevax is the only maker of rabies and feline leukemia vaccines without an adjuvant. An adjuvant is an additive that can make a vaccine more effective but unfortunately does so by creating inflammation around the injection.
New research in feline medicine shows that the less inflammation a vaccine causes, the fewer problems can develop, not only immediately, but in the long run. Problems like what? Fever, pain, and rarely, even tumors! The Purevax we are using don't have the ingredients that cause this inflammation, and they are just as effective at protection against disease.
The only change this means for you is that the rabies vaccine is every year at exam instead of every 3 years, but is much safer for Kitty.
Why don't we do this in dogs? Dogs aren't big kitties! They don't respond the same way to these adjuvants as cats do and so they aren't at risk for the inflammation and problems it causes.
